The volume of ore exported in May 2023 amounted to 1,385 million tons (37% of the total volume). Grain cargoes ranked second (1.1 million tons or 30%), followed by ferrous metals (0.5 million tons or 13%).

Despite ore taking the top spot in exports, the transportation volume of this cargo decreased compared to April.

In May, the volume of ore exports decreased by 280,000 tons or 17% compared to April.

Overall, during January-May 2023, the transportation volume of ore decreased by 6.88 million tons or 49% compared to the same period in 2022.

Ukrzaliznytsia noted that iron ore prices continue to face pressure due to reduced demand caused by production cuts at certain metallurgical plants and repair work during market uncertainty.

It should be noted that in May, the transfer of wagons with ore through the Izov-Hrubieszow crossing decreased by more than six times.

Ukrainian and Polish railways have called for an increase in the transportation of non-food goods through border crossings.
