In Germany, starting from January 1, 2024, the companies DB Station&Service (railway stations and related services) and DB Netz (railway infrastructure) are merging into a new company called DB InfraGO, as reported by the railway portal Railway Supply.

This is a significant step in the reform of the country’s railway transport, which began in 1994.

Richard Lutz, the CEO of DB, emphasizes that this merger is necessary to effectively utilize the additional investments of 40 billion euros allocated by the federal government for the modernization of the railway system.

DB InfraGO will serve as the operator of the entire railway infrastructure, obliged to provide equal access to it for carriers at a fair price, while operating as a commercial company oriented toward public interests.
