Part of the train production will take place locally, fostering Morocco’s railway industry growth. Hyundai Rotem will collaborate with Moroccan engineers and technicians to develop manufacturing capabilities.
Hyundai Rotem and Korail will establish separate agreements for maintenance and repairs. This partnership ensures the long-term reliability and efficiency of Morocco’s upgraded railway system.
Around 90% of the train components will come from Korean small- and medium-sized enterprises. This deal will drive significant growth in Korea’s railway manufacturing industry.
Hyundai Rotem Strengthens Presence in Africa’s Railway Market
This marks Hyundai Rotem’s entry into Morocco, reinforcing its global railway presence. The company attributes the successful contract to strong cooperation between public and private sectors.
South Korea’s Transport Minister visited Morocco last year to showcase railway technology. Hyundai Rotem’s focus on training and technology transfer received strong support from Moroccan officials.
With this contract, Hyundai Rotem strengthens its foothold in Africa’s railway sector. Previous successful projects in Tunisia, Tanzania, and Egypt demonstrate the company’s expertise in the region.
The company’s major past contracts include a $1.1 billion Australian train project. Other significant deals involve Queensland’s railway expansion and Los Angeles Metro’s 2028 Olympics contract.
“This contract highlights Korea’s railway industry competitiveness in global markets,” said a Hyundai Rotem spokesperson. “We will deliver safe, high-quality trains for residents and visitors during the 2030 World Cup.”
