The Japanese manufacturer plans to release the EuroMasaccio regional train by 2027, built on the Masaccio platform, this is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

Hybrid train for the European market

Hitachi Rail is currently fulfilling a contract to supply 43 Blues trains for an Italian carrier, also designed on this platform.

In 2023, Kazakhstan’s railways will reach their capacity limit in the direction of China

It is anticipated that, similar to Blues, EuroMasaccio will feature a power system with overhead line traction, two battery packs, and a diesel engine.

The battery range is expected to be 12 km, with the potential for modifications to operate on either DC or AC power networks.

Hitachi Rail aims to attract customers from central Europe, particularly Germany and France, with this rolling stock.

The company hopes that this model will present a more cost-effective alternative to battery and hydrogen trains from other manufacturers.
