Stadler is the sole participant in the tender for the supply of 75 electric trains to Poland

Inside, there are reproduced intercar transitions, passenger cabins with comfortable seats, and platforms for wheelchairs.

It’s worth noting that these cars will be manufactured at Hitachi Rail’s new factory in Hagerstown, scheduled to open in the summer.

The factory plans to produce 20 series 8000 cars per month.

A contract for the supply of 256 cars, with the possibility of an additional option up to 800 units, was signed back in 2021.

The first trains are expected to be delivered to the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) by 2025, with operations set to begin in 2026.

The uniqueness of this train series lies in the use of aluminum bodies, which, according to WMATA estimates, will save up to $10 million in electricity over the service life of each train.

In addition, thanks to the new seating arrangement, passenger flow in the car will increase from 191 to 222 people.

This is a significant step in the development of the metro, promoting passenger comfort and efficiency in transportation.
