The 33.5-meter-long trams will reach speeds of up to 70 km/h and can carry 278 passengers, 54 of whom will be seated.

The manufacturer has not disclosed the expected range or charging time of the batteries.

Additionally, Hitachi Rail won a tender to service 46 five-section Sirio trams. This contract is valued at 17 million euros.

Sirio trams were delivered to Florence from 2009 to 2017, initially by AnsaldoBreda, which was later acquired by Hitachi Rail.

Previously, the company installed battery systems with regenerative braking on one of the trams of this series.

Trials of the upgraded vehicle in commercial conditions took place in Florence in 2021.

Part of the route was covered using battery power, while the rest used the overhead contact line.

Tram services in Florence were resumed in 2010 after a half-century hiatus.
