The company raised train speeds from 120 to 140 km/h by implementing microprocessor interlocking (MPC) systems of the L90 type and the European Train Control System (ETCS) Level 2.

At the initial stage, Hitachi Rail specialists launched five MPC systems into operation. By the end of 2025, the company plans to install two more MPC systems and fully commission the ETCS to further enhance railway safety and efficiency.

Hitachi Rail Upgrades Infrastructure and Communication Systems

Hitachi Rail actively integrates additional technological solutions along the line. The company is installing LED signals, L700H electric-hydraulic point machines, modern track circuits, and trackside balises.

Additionally, Hitachi Rail upgrades level crossing protection systems, integrates dispatch management tools, and modernizes power supply facilities. To strengthen monitoring and communication, the company deploys video surveillance systems, GSM-R radio communication, and fixed technological networks.

The German division of Hitachi Rail, with extensive experience in infrastructure projects, coordinates the work. The 79-kilometer-long Gyorok–Birzava line, located in western Romania, serves both passenger and freight transport.

Thus, the modernization greatly enhances the region’s transport system and promotes the development of logistics corridors in Eastern Europe. Hitachi Rail continues to implement innovative technologies into Romania’s railway sector.
