Hitachi Rail drives Spain’s freight modernization

The 2,485 meters long branch line will connect the Guadaíra River railway bridge with the La Negrilla freight terminal bypass. This will allow freight trains to have easy access to the ports, which means that train operators will not have to deal with reversals within commuter stations.

Adif entrusted Hitachi Rail with managing new signaling projects involving track circuit systems, axle counters, and electromechanical point machines. Also, it will improve control systems for both the Local Operations Centre and the Centralized Traffic Control Centre located in Seville’s Santa Justa station. Engineers will incorporate new interlocking software.

Hitachi Rail improves logistics efficiency in Spain

According to Adolfo Aguilar, sales director for HitachiRail Spain, this deal is a boost for freight transport in Andalusia because it brings innovation and efficiency together. This measure is part of EU policy to transport freight via railways instead of roads.

The firm uses accumulated know-how developed in other projects in Spain. They have already implemented signaling and communication systems for ports in Huelva, Málaga, and Marín, as well as for logistics centers in Júndiz, Mérida, and Pancorbo. These constitute a network that enables industrialization and sustainable logistics.

At the global stage, Hitachi Rail is expanding operations across Europe. The Bulgarian operations involve supporting Alokor EAD in maintaining signaling systems on the Sofia-Plovdiv-Svilengrad route. This is a critical freight route to Turkey. Cross-border projects demonstrate expertise in this area.

The improvement on the freight railway line in Port of Seville is more than just a local initiative. It makes Andalusia a critical element in Europe’s sustainable transport policy. With improved control, signaling, and connectivity, Seville is setting the pace on freight mobility.
