High-Speed Trains Transform Tükiye’s Transportation Landscape

Over 93 million passengers traveled via high-speed trains in Türkiye over the past 15 years. This was reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

The Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, Abdulkadir Uraloglu, shared this achievement while discussing railway advancements. He highlighted that the first high-speed train line started operations in 2009, marking a transformative period for the nation’s transportation.

In a Nov. 30 interview with Anadolu Agency, Uraloglu detailed current railway investments designed to boost comfort. These projects aim to cut travel times significantly and attract more passengers. Türkiye has witnessed a consistent rise in demand for efficient rail travel options.
Expanding High-Speed Train Connectivity Across Türkiye
New high-speed train line projects are being developed to meet growing passenger needs effectively. Uraloglu explained that these trains now connect 11 cities directly, enhancing accessibility and reducing travel burdens. The system carried 11.9 million passengers in 2023, with projections suggesting this figure could reach 12.4 million next year.
“Our railway network spans 13,919 kilometers, including 2,251 kilometers of high-speed lines,” Uraloglu noted. Conventional lines cover 11,668 kilometers, providing broad connectivity. Recent expansions underscore the government’s commitment to modernizing the network.
Ongoing Investments in High-Speed Rail Projects
A total of 6,978 kilometers of railway construction has been finalized since the initial launch. Meanwhile, projects covering 3,776 kilometers remain under construction, showcasing Türkiye’s ongoing efforts. Plans for an additional 5,785 kilometers are already being formulated.
The emphasis on railway development reflects the country’s strategy to enhance sustainable transportation. Investments continue driving innovations aimed at meeting evolving demands efficiently. Türkiye’s high-speed rail ambitions underline its vision for the future.
