South Korea’s Hyundai Rotem has started deliveries: high-speed trains Hyundai Rotem for Uzbekistan have been shipped with the first seven-car set.

This is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

The shipment ceremony took place on December 10 at the port of Masan in South Korea, as reported by Korean media including The Korea Times.

The remaining trains are planned for delivery through 2027. They will operate on a 1,286 km network, including the Tashkent–Khiva (465 km) and Tashkent–Bukhara (590 km) routes. The trains’ stated maximum speed is up to 250 km/h.

The rolling stock was designed with local operating conditions in mind. The trains are protected against dust, built to run in high temperatures, and are expected to remain operational during sandstorms.

Korean media note that the trains for Uzbekistan are based on the KTX-Eum model. This high-speed train series has been used in South Korea since 2021 and can be operated at speeds of up to 260 km/h.

Contract for six trains and plans for new routes

The contract to purchase six trains was signed in summer 2024; order parameters, including the 250 km/h speed and the link to the KTX-Eum platform, were also mentioned by Railway Gazette International. A month ago, it was also reported that Uzbekistan plans to buy eight more high-speed Hyundai Rotem electric trains for the Tashkent–Termez and Tashkent–Andijan routes.

In addition, in late November, South Korea’s Saman Engineering, part of the consortium developing the feasibility study for a dedicated passenger rail line Tashkent–Samarkand, presented three project options for the future corridor.
