SNCF Voyageurs plans to launch a program to upgrade 104 high-speed trains, as reported by the railway portal Railway Supply.

High-Speed Train Upgrade Program

The French passenger transport operator SNCF Voyageurs intends to extend the service life of 104 TGV trains.

This program complements other initiatives aimed at increasing the capacity of the high-speed rolling stock fleet, such as ordering 115 TGV M trains for operation under the INOUI brand and increasing the number of OUIGO brand trains from 38 to 50 units.

Implementing this program will allow an increase in the number of seats in the fleet by 10–15% by 2032, which is necessary to expand the market share of railways in the passenger transportation market and meet the growing demand for transportation services.

Currently, the TGV fleet consists of 363 units, compared to 410 in July 2018. However, the number of seats has increased by 10% over the past 5 years, thanks in part to double-decker cars.

Typically, the service life of TGV trains is limited to 40 years.
