Businesses are recommended to diversify to secure a share of future HS2 contracts, according to the railway journal Railway Supply.

High-Speed 2 (HS2)

HS2 is preparing for the next phase of implementation by searching for new companies in the UK to help build their fleet of new high-speed trains.

In 2021, the joint venture between Hitachi and Alstom was awarded a £2 billion contract to build the next generation of high-speed trains for the UK at their factories in Derby, Derbyshire, and Crewe.

After two years, the train manufacturing giants are collaborating with HS2 to find new suppliers who can participate in the interior fitting of modern trains.

The construction of HS2 already supports around 30,000 jobs, and up to this point, 3,000 UK companies have won contracts on this project.

Now, for the first time, the most significant economic and social project of the last decade is preparing to provide second-tier contract opportunities related to a fleet of 54 trains to the open market.

HS2 will host a “Meet the Contractor” event in Manchester on Tuesday, July 11, to showcase future opportunities.

This event allows business owners to have one-on-one meetings with Hitachi/Alstom to discuss their individual requirements and learn more about the procurement process.

Companies specializing in the supply of exterior coatings, decals, emergency equipment, high-voltage cables, and electrical cabinets are also recommended to participate.

As contracts will vary in size, value, and duration, HS2 encourages small businesses to seize the opportunity to enter a new sector and benefit from multimillion-pound opportunities.

Additional information about the event, taking place on July 11 at the Midland Hotel in Manchester, can be found on the HS2 website or at https://ow.ly/Y6kw50OIKpu.

Businesses can express their interest in becoming an HS2 supplier at any time by registering their details on CompeteFor.

For information and guidance on becoming an HS2 supplier, refer to the HS2 Supplier Guide.

HS2 creates broad opportunities for businesses regardless of their industry and urges companies to get involved in this project to secure contract opportunities and ensure business growth.
