Hanoi train-truck accident investigators are examining the June 7 collision in Thuong Tin commune, where passenger train SE19 struck a truck at a level crossing.

The Hanoi City Police Traffic Police Department said initial checks found no alcohol concentration violations⁠ involving either the train driver or the truck driver. Drug tests were also negative.

The initial cause was identified⁠ as the truck driver’s failure to comply with railway signals. The truck crossed the level crossing barrier while the barrier was moving into position to stop road traffic for the passing train.

Road Traffic Police Team No. 8 under the Hanoi City Police Traffic Police Department is coordinating with Thuong Tin Commune Police and the People’s Procuracy of Area 11 to verify the circumstances, investigate the case and handle it under legal procedures.

The railway accident occurred at about 8 pm on June 7 at Km14+700 on the Van Dien – Thuong Tin section in Hanoi. It involved passenger train SE19, which was operating from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City, and a truck with license plate 30B-542. XX.

The SE19 train was driven by Mr. Nguyen X.H, born in 1990 and residing in Hanoi. The truck driver was Mr. Ngo M.C, born in 1993 and residing in Bao Loc 2 ward, Lam Dong province.

Before the collision, the truck had been moving from National Highway 1A across the railway line toward an inter-communal road in Nhi Khe village.

Damage and response at the scene

The crash damaged the locomotive of train SE19, leaving it unable to continue operating. A railway traffic light pole was also damaged. The right side of the truck was deformed, and sand from the truck bed spilled onto the road, covering many motorbikes parked nearby.

No casualties were reported in the incident.

After receiving information about the crash, authorities arrived at the scene to inspect the area, examine the cause of the accident and record the damage.
