Full restoration of train service through the Gotthard Base Tunnel is scheduled for September 2, 2024, this is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

Swiss Federal Railways (SBB) announced that on August 19, 2024, the first test train passed through the restored western tube of the Gotthard Base Tunnel.
Rail Baltica is considering a new financing model: how will it affect the project?
It traveled from Chiasso on the Italian border to Basel, located on the border with Germany.
Additionally, a freight train operated by SBB Cargo International traveled through the tunnel from Ludwigshafen (Germany) to Gallarate (Italy).
The previous week saw a series of test runs and inspections.
Regular train service through the tunnel will begin on September 2, 2024.
Both freight and passenger InterCity and EuroCity trains are expected to run every 30 minutes between northwestern Switzerland and the canton of Ticino.
Additional testing will continue until the tunnel opens.
The accident that occurred on August 10, 2023, caused significant damage to the western tube of the tunnel.
The derailment of 16 freight cars damaged a section of the tunnel extending over 7 km.
The latest estimates for the restoration costs, including repairs and lost revenue, are around 150 million Swiss francs (173 million USD).
