Commuters now benefit from four times more GO Train trips in this corridor, including off-peak and weekend travel, making it easier to reach Niagara Falls and downtown Hamilton efficiently.

The dead-end track at West Harbour had previously forced trains to reverse, delaying round trips by up to 20 minutes. The new through-track eliminates this issue, boosting operational speed and convenience.

GO Train Service Now Stops at West Harbour Year-Round

Most trains on the Lakeshore West line bypassed West Harbour due to the delay. With the new connection, every train to and from Niagara Falls now stops at the station throughout the week.

Transportation Minister Prabmeet Sarkaria highlighted the importance of the upgrade. He said it improves access to one of Canada’s most visited tourist destinations while expanding regional transit capacity.

GO Train Expansion Supports Confederation Station and Indigenous Access

The upgrade also sets the stage for future service to Confederation GO Station in Stoney Creek. Sarkaria stated that construction has progressed well and the station will open later this year.

Additionally, Ontario has extended GO bus service to the Six Nations of the Grand River and Mississaugas of the Credit First Nations—its first direct GO Transit link to First Nation communities.

Metrolinx Interim CEO Michael Lindsay noted that the track work was completed ahead of schedule, contrasting with the delays that often affect public infrastructure projects.

As of March 2025, veterans and active Canadian Armed Forces members can ride GO Transit for free, reflecting Ontario’s broader commitment to inclusive and accessible transportation.
