The Regional Environmental Protection Authority in Szczecin has issued an environmental conditions decision for the construction project of a deepwater container terminal in Świnoujście, this is reported by the railway transport news portal, Railway Supply.
This brings the strategic investment for Western Pomerania and the development of maritime transport in Poland one step closer to realization. The project is planned to be completed by 2028, along with new access roads.
Plasser & Theurer Expands its Manufacturing Capacities in the USA
The project for the construction of a deepwater container terminal in Świnoujście envisions the development of an artificially created platform in the Baltic Sea, capable of handling 1.5 million TEUs annually, with the potential to increase handling capacity to 2 million TEUs.
This investment will bridge the gap between Hamburg and the seaports of Tricity and will be located on the right bank of Świnoujście, where the majority of port infrastructure, as well as railway and road infrastructure, is situated.
Residential areas will also be spared from vehicular and railway traffic with the terminal.
The issuance of the environmental conditions decision opens the door for the signing of a 30-year agreement with the Belgian-Qatari consortium Deme Concessions and Terminals, which has already reached a preliminary agreement on this matter with the Administration of the Seaports of Szczecin and Świnoujście.
