A Ghaziabad freight derailment disrupted 53 rail services on July 21 after six loaded wagons left the track, forcing cancellations, partial cancellations, diversions and regulated train movements.

Six wagons derail near Sahibabad

Akashvani News⁠ reported that the derailment occurred on the Ghaziabad–New Delhi section of Northern Railway’s Delhi Division. Northern Railway said no casualties or injuries had been reported, while the Divisional Railway Manager, Additional Divisional Railway Manager and other senior officials supervised restoration work at the site. 

A report citing Northern Railway officials⁠ placed the incident in the Sahibabad area of Ghaziabad at about 2:36 a.m. It said the train was carrying coal, which spilled onto the tracks after the six wagons derailed.

Technical and relief teams were deployed to clear the derailed wagons and restore operations. The railway also ordered an inquiry to establish the cause of the incident.

Cancellations and diversions affect passengers

The initial operational update counted 53 affected trains. Twenty-four were diverted via the Delhi–New Delhi route, while 16 passenger trains were cancelled and five were partially cancelled.

A further eight services bound for Anand Vihar through the Moradabad Division and North Central Railway were regulated while restoration work continued. 

Passengers travelling through the corridor were advised to confirm the latest running information before departure through the official National Train Enquiry System⁠. The early update did not specify when normal operations would be fully restored.
