Gdynia Chylonia–Lębork line doubling deal targets end-2029
24.12.2025
Gdynia Chylonia–Lębork line doubling is moving ahead after Polskie Linie Kolejowe (PKP PLK) signed a EUR 618 million design-and-build contract with Krakow-based ZUE to double the Gdynia Chylonia–Lębork line, according to the PKP PLK press office.

The work on main line No. 202 is due to be completed by the end of 2029 and will be supported by European co-financing under the FEnIKS 2021–2027 program.
This is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.
What the project delivers on railway line No. 202?
The PKP PLK Gdynia Chylonia–Lębork line contract combines design and construction tasks and is intended to bring this part of the route up to the standards passengers expect. One visible element is station infrastructure: platforms at 14 stations and stops will be rebuilt, with accessibility improvements for people with reduced mobility.

Operationally, the Line No. 202 modernization is also framed around capacity. By doubling the track on selected stretches, PKP PLK expects the corridor to handle more passenger and freight trains on this section of the Trójmiasto–Słupsk route.
Stations, accessibility and new stops in Wejherowo district
The plans also address access to rail transport for residents of the Wejherowo district, described as a key hub on the Trójmiasto–Słupsk route. PKP PLK says five new stations will be built there, alongside the platform rebuilds elsewhere on the upgraded section.
European support for the scheme comes through the European Funds for Infrastructure, Climate and Environment Program 2021–2027 (FEnIKS), as set out on the official FEnIKS programme portal.
Capacity, safety upgrades and faster services to Słupsk
On the infrastructure side, the project includes modernizing 55 km of existing track and the contact network. It also covers upgrades to 73 engineering structures—bridges, viaducts and underpasses—intended to support smoother and safer travel.
Changes are planned at road-rail interfaces too. Under the plan, 12 level crossings will be replaced with road or rail overpasses, and a new rail traffic control system will be introduced, managed from a new Local Control Center in Wejherowo.
The Gdynia Chylonia–Lębork line doubling follows work on the Lębork–Słupsk section, which has been under construction for two years. Together, these parts form main line No. 202 linking Pomerania with the West Pomeranian Voivodeship; Railway Supply has also covered modernization activity related to line No. 202 in the Tri-City area.
In a wider investment context, PKP PLK director for investment implementation Marcin Mochocki said the company is “allocating billions of zlotys” to modernize line No. 202 from Gdynia to Słupsk and line No. 201 from Bydgoszcz to Gdynia, as well as to provide rail access to the future Lubiatowo–Kopalino nuclear power plant. He added that the Line No. 202 modernization is intended to ensure fast and comfortable travel between Słupsk and Trójmiasto (Tri-City), with platforms adapted for all passengers, including those with reduced mobility.
Once works along the full Gdynia Chylonia–Słupsk route are implemented, PKP PLK expects the fastest passenger trains to cut travel time by around 15 minutes. Passenger trains are planned to run at up to 160 km/h (from 120 km/h currently), while freight services would reach up to 120 km/h (from 70 km/h). Over the longer term, the stated target is to reach 200 km/h.
The investment is also intended to prepare the infrastructure for a next stage, to be delivered under a separate project focused on ERTMS implementation. Line No. 202 is described as part of the route that will provide rail access to the future Lubiatowo–Kopalino nuclear power plant.
