The new center is designed to service locomotives of classes such as Class 66, 69, and 73.

In addition to meeting GBRf’s own needs, the facility will also offer services to locomotive fleets of other companies, including EMD, Wabtec, and St. Leonard’s Railway Engineering.

The expansion of the maintenance network with the opening of the new center in Tonbridge is an important step for GB Railfreight, as it enhances the efficiency and quality of the company’s locomotive operations in the Southeast region of England.

Previously, GBRf launched similar facilities in Doncaster and Peterborough, and the new center will significantly complement the existing infrastructure, improving logistics and the maintenance of rolling stock.

GB Railfreight is known for its innovative approaches to railway operations.

At the end of 2023, the company initiated testing of the latest system for monitoring the condition of wheelsets and wagon brakes.

As part of this project, battery-powered sensors capable of transmitting real-time information about component conditions were tested over four weeks.

This technology was developed in collaboration with several companies, including the internet provider Icomera, consulting firm GB Railfreight DG8, and Sensei, an agency specializing in Internet of Things (IoT) solutions.

These innovations aim to enhance the safety and efficiency of rail transport, which is particularly important for freight companies.

Thus, the opening of the new center in Tonbridge and the implementation of advanced technologies strengthen GB Railfreight’s position as a leader in the UK rail freight market, demonstrating its commitment to improving its services and maintaining a high level of locomotive fleet readiness.
