FrontAdd: An Innovative Solution for FLIRT Nordic Express Trains

Hubner has signed a contract to supply 34 FrontAdd systems for 17 FLIRT Nordic Express trains. This technology enhances aerodynamics, reduces noise, and protects essential components like cables and engines. This was reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

Unique Features of FrontAdd
FrontAdd includes a corrugated bellows system attached to the front coupling of FLIRT Nordic Express trains. This feature shields critical parts from external impacts, ensuring durability and reliability.

In addition, the aerodynamic structure reduces energy consumption by about 2%, optimizing operational efficiency. The soundproofing also minimizes noise in the driver’s cabin, improving overall comfort.
Contract and Project Outlook
The contract between Stadler and Norske tog guarantees delivery of the first FLIRT Nordic Express trains by late 2026. Each train consists of eight cars and accommodates up to 542 passengers.
Furthermore, the agreement includes an option for Norske tog to order 83 additional trains in the future. These trains can reach a maximum speed of 200 km/h, making them suitable for long-distance journeys.
