Freight movement on the Middle Corridor grew sharply from 840,000 tonnes in 2021 to 4.5 million tonnes in 2024, underlining the route’s growing strategic role

Stakeholders plan to increase that figure to 10 million tonnes by 2030, making the Middle Corridor even more crucial for trans-Eurasian logistics and trade diversification.

Transit Times Improve on Middle Corridor Route

Delivery times have improved significantly, shrinking from 38–58 days in 2021 to 19–23 days by 2024, making the corridor more competitive and appealing for global shippers.

This efficiency upgrade coincides with rising volumes, encouraging further investment into infrastructure, digital tools, and customs optimization across the region.

Middle Corridor’s Future Backed by Growth Forecasts

According to the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, container traffic on the Central Trans-Caspian route could reach 130,000 TEU by 2040.

If major infrastructure projects proceed, that number could jump to 865,000 TEU, transforming the corridor into a key player in global container logistics.

Kazakhstan remains a pivotal player, currently handling 63% of the route’s freight, according to figures reported earlier by LogiStan.

The corridor’s momentum reflects shifting trade strategies between Europe and Asia, especially as businesses seek reliable alternatives amid geopolitical uncertainty.

With ongoing investment and multilateral coordination, this trans-Caspian route is on course to become a major artery of global freight connectivity.
