The loan will fund the purchase of double-deck Avelia Horizon trains, capable of reaching speeds of 320 km/h. These modern trains accommodate 640 passengers, ensuring comfort and high-speed travel.
The trains will be assembled in France, while the electrical equipment will be produced in Morocco. Alstom’s factory in the city of Fez will manufacture components for the future trains.
The project is being implemented as part of Morocco’s strategy to expand its high-speed rail network. The authorities plan to connect the capital to Marrakesh via high-speed rail.
Additionally, ONCF has signed agreements with CAF and Hyundai Rotem to supply 150 new trains. The total value of the signed contracts is $2.1 billion, including modernization funding.
This major railway project is being carried out ahead of the 2030 FIFA World Cup. Morocco is actively preparing for the tournament by developing its national infrastructure.
