The agreement includes the delivery of 25 trams. Starting in June 2025, Bozankaya will ship two trams per month to accelerate the modernization of urban transport.

These five-section low-floor trams measure 30.5 meters in length and 2.4 meters in width, with a capacity of 218 passengers, including 48 seats. They can reach speeds of up to 70 km/h and feature six wide doors for fast boarding.

Old trams to be replaced by Bozankaya deliveries

Belgrade’s tram network consists of 11 lines totaling 127 km, running on 1000 mm gauge track. Currently, outdated Tatra KT4 vehicles, some over 30 years old, remain in operation.

Used Düwag and Schindler Waggon trams, formerly in service in Basel, are also in use. Between 2011 and 2013, Spain’s CAF delivered 30 low-floor Urbos trams to the city.

City prepares next phase of tram renewal

In February 2025, operator GSP announced a $369 million (€345 million) tender for 100 new trams. The required vehicles will range from 17 to 20 meters in length and accommodate up to 95 passengers.

This new fleet will fully replace the aging Tatra KT4 units. The city aims to improve service comfort and energy efficiency as ridership continues to grow.

Belgrade’s investment in rolling stock renewal marks another step in the city’s broader transport modernization strategy. The Bozankaya tram is the first result of this ambitious upgrade plan.
