These passenger coaches were designed by LHB (renamed Alstom Transport Deutschland in 2009) for India and have been produced since 1998. As of October 2025, LHB coaches make up 75% of all Indian Railways locomotive-hauled express trains (see also Railway Supply’s article on LHB coaches in India).
In addition, at the end of November the Ministry of Railways reported a 22% increase in electric locomotive production: in the first seven months of the 2025–2026 financial year, Indian plants built 946 electric locomotives versus 773 units in the same period of the previous financial year (statement posted on RailMinIndia on X).
