Express Service OOD provides warranty service for newly purchased Siemens Smartron locomotives in Bulgaria
09.12.2023
Bulgarian Railways will acquire ten more new Siemens Smartron X4-E-Lok-D electric locomotives, as reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply, citing Economic.bg.
Smartron locomotives are the most popular among the new generation of locomotives in Bulgaria.

They are not only used by BDZ (15 units) but also by PIMK (six units, three of which are a more advanced model ‘Vectron’) and ‘Bulmarket’ (two units).
The Smartron’s power is 7614 hp, weight is 83 tons, and the maximum speed is 160 km/h.
The new BDZ locomotives will be exclusively used for passenger transport.
After signing the contract, Siemens will have 18 months to deliver the first locomotive and an additional six months for the remaining nine. Thus, the new machines will be delivered in the second half of 2025 and early 2026.
The price of each new locomotive is around 11 million levs, including not only the machine but also technical maintenance, training of engineers and staff, as well as emergency repairs.
Locomotives of similar types, like cars, have clearly defined service intervals.
At 900,000 km, technical maintenance is carried out, and at 1.2 million km, a major overhaul is performed, costing about half a million levs.
Replacement of railway wheels occurs approximately every 400,000 kilometers, depending on the condition of the railway network.
Siemens Smartrons currently purchased are serviced under warranty by the Bulgarian manufacturer of shunting locomotives, Express Service OOD.
Express Service OOD is involved in the development, design, and production of efficient and environmentally friendly shunting locomotives. They utilize advanced technologies and ensure high quality of their products.
