The European Union currently requires efficient and interconnected multimodal systems for transporting both passengers and cargo.

This includes the development of railway networks, the modernization of navigation equipment on inland waterways, and port infrastructure, as well as promoting balanced interactions between different modes of transport and enhancing the automation of operational processes.

In terms of budget size, this competition will be the largest within the CEF program for the period from 2021 to 2027.

Special attention will be given to cross-border projects between EU member states, as well as those aimed at improving the resilience of transportation infrastructure in the face of natural disasters.

Since 2014, the CEF program has provided financial support for approximately 1,300 projects in the transportation sector, with a total value of €29.8 billion.
