Signed on November 8, the agreement involves Moldova’s Calea Ferată, Obermeyer Hellas from Greece, and Germany’s DB Engineering & Consulting. Together, these partners aim to upgrade the railway infrastructure across 375 kilometers, covering significant routes including Vălcineț, Ocnița, Bălți, Ungheni, Chișinău, and Căinari.

Obermeyer Hellas and DB Engineering & Consulting are supervising the construction and upgrades to ensure quality work. This extensive modernization enhances Moldova’s link with European transport systems, supporting the EU’s 2022 Solidarity Lanes initiative. Solidarity Lanes, launched by the European Union, aims to assist Ukraine’s trade routes and Moldova’s integration into the broader market. The project utilizes rail, road, and inland waterways, fostering smoother regional trade flows.

The 375-kilometer North-South railway corridor transformation will drive economic progress for Moldova. Improved infrastructure will increase trade efficiency and enable Moldova to play a greater role in Eastern European trade. This EU-supported project represents an impactful step towards sustainable growth and international connectivity for Moldova.
