14.09.2022
Etihad Rail announced the successful completion of the connection between the Abu Dhabi Industrial City Cargo Rail Cargo Terminal (ICAD) and the UAE national rail network. It is reported by Railway Supply with reference to Saudi Gulf Projects.
The company has completed track-laying work and successfully tested the new line, which stretches from the borders of Saudi Arabia to the port of Fujairah on the east coast, passing through key manufacturing hubs and urban centers.
After the completion of the second phase, Etihad Rail will provide logistics solutions from the rail terminal located in the heart of the industrial city of Abu Dhabi, a growing hub of industrial companies in the area.
Etihad Rail is building the largest inland rail freight terminal in the UAE at ICAD, covering just over 250,000 square metres. The new rail freight terminal will consist of over 22 buildings and major facilities to support operations, handling up to nine trains per day.

It will facilitate the distribution of goods in the countries of the Gulf Cooperation Council, where it will connect quarries in the northern emirates with industrial centers in the Musaffa region, and will also connect Ruwais, Khalifa Port and container companies in Dubai at Jebel Ali Port. Containers will be transported by rail to other sites and back after a road trip to the end customer location.
The rail freight terminal will act as a logistics hub for heavy industry, ensuring the smooth distribution of raw materials and equipment to manufacturers, as well as improving connectivity to vital trade infrastructure such as ports. It will also offer customs services, making ICAD tenants more competitive.
The new rail freight terminal, which operates 24/7, will offer businesses a range of competitive advantages with the highest level of efficiency in terms of transportation costs and sustainability. When fully operational, the ICAD rail freight terminal will provide more efficient, cost-effective and sustainable transport capacity and will handle more than 15 million tons of bulk raw materials, 1.5 million tons of general cargo and about 116,600 20-foot sea containers per year.
