EU allocates €2.8 billion for the TEN-T transport network
10.07.2025
In 2025, the European Commission allocated €2.8 billion to develop the TEN-T transport network. The funding comes from the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF), which approved 94 projects from 258 submitted proposals. This is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.
More than 77% of the funds — approximately €2.15 billion — will support the modernization of railway infrastructure and the construction of new lines.

Rail Baltica and other key corridors receive funding
The EU allocates €2.8 billion for the TEN-T transport network, with a focus on strategic projects across multiple countries. For instance, €295.5 million will go to Rail Baltica, while the Czech Republic will receive €294.8 million for the Nezamyslice–Kojetin section. Poland will get €294 million for the E75 line, which connects to Rail Baltica, and Greece will receive €277.2 million for the Alexandroupolis–Pythio corridor.

Investment in ETCS deployment across 11 EU countries
Another major priority is the implementation of the European Train Control System (ETCS). A total of 32 projects in 11 countries — including Germany, Italy, Austria, and Poland — will receive support to install both onboard and trackside ETCS equipment. This initiative aims to increase safety and unify train control standards across the TEN-T network.
The European Commission plans to complete the core TEN-T network by 2030 and finalize the full structure by 2050. All lines will be ETCS-equipped and allow trains to operate at speeds of at least 160 km/h.
The CEF program for 2021–2027 has a total budget of €25.8 billion and also supports associated countries such as Ukraine and Moldova. As of now, 95% of the program’s funds have been allocated.
Between 2014 and 2024, CEF financed 1,861 transport projects with a total investment of €47.34 billion.
