The report outlines initial funding of £2.4 billion by 2030 and seeks government backing for long-term investments. Priorities include improved connectivity between Leeds, Sheffield, and York and major upgrades along the Leeds–Sheffield corridor.
Key Infrastructure Upgrades Across Yorkshire
The blueprint proposes a through-station in Bradford, a mainline station in Rotherham, and enhanced capacity in York. It also supports electrification and higher service frequency to underserved towns.
By aligning rail development with housing and job creation, the plan could generate $25 billion in regional value, create 83,000 jobs, and support over 210,000 new homes across Yorkshire.
Political Support for Yorkshire’s Transport Vision
West Yorkshire Mayor Tracy Brabin stressed the importance of reliable, modern transport. She emphasized that investment is crucial for unlocking economic potential and helping communities thrive.
In North Yorkshire, Mayor David Skaith pushed for better links to Scarborough and Haxby and removing bottlenecks like Northallerton. South Yorkshire Mayor Oliver Coppard backed new services to London and full electrification of Sheffield lines.
Lord Blunkett called the plan a once-in-a-generation opportunity to transform rail in Yorkshire and beyond, urging the UK government to act swiftly and fund the regional vision.
