Modernised power electronics also enable finer regulation of the engine. This leads to a more even distribution of energy and boosted efficiency and reliability of the locomotives.
Making it more efficient with Wabtec technology
The centerpiece of EVO Advantage is a generator which transfers the energy of the exhaust gases to one of the six traction motors. Hence, 7% less fuel is consumed on field tests.
Engineers did, however, bolt a carbon fiber sleeve over the rotor magnets. This part reduces the space requirement in the generator and makes system more solid for operating condition.
What is the Wabtec EVO Advantage technology?
EVO Advantage, Wabtec This is a complete upgrade package for Evolution series locomotives, and is the propulsion system to help reduce fuel consumption and significantly increase the efficiency of the diesel-electric form factor already on the road.
How much is EVO Advantage going to save me?
Wabtec says the upgrade cuts fuel consumption by about 7%, which translates into huge monetary and environmental savings.
EVO Advantage is when EVO Advantage is available to the public?
Wabtec is currently testing the EVO Advantage system in the field. After testing and all required certifications are obtained, widespread deployment is anticipated.
