Northrail signed the purchase agreement in November 2024. The initial order includes 10 DE 18 diesel locomotives, with an option for 10 more.

Vossloh Rolling Stock expands in Scandinavia with DE 18

The DE 18 features a hood-type design and is suitable for both shunting and mainline operations. It is certified for use with HVO fuel, which reduces CO₂ emissions by up to 90%.

Using hydrotreated vegetable oil makes the locomotive a sustainable solution for operators committed to reducing their carbon footprint.

Vossloh Rolling Stock ensures safety and readiness

The delivered unit will be equipped with ETCS and ATC‑2 safety systems, ensuring compliance with both European and local signaling standards.

Dynamic tests are scheduled for 2025, and full operational deployment is expected to begin in early 2026.

With this delivery, Vossloh Rolling Stock strengthens its position in Northern Europe by offering efficient, eco-friendly rail solutions.

Northrail, in turn, continues to modernize its fleet with technologies that support environmental responsibility and performance.
