Work is also progressing on a 900-meter drop pit line and wheel lathe, designed to streamline heavy-duty servicing. These upgrades aim to support India’s growing fleet of semi-high-speed trains.
According to Divisional Railway Manager Anurag Tripathi, the government directed teams to accelerate the project. The goal is to finish the Depot this year to meet future operational demand.
Depot Will Boost Jodhpur’s Railway Status
Once operational, the Depot will establish Jodhpur as a key service hub for modern rail. It will be the first of its kind in the region and one of five similar facilities across India.
The infrastructure includes a synchronized train-lifting system and drop pit table for efficient bogie removal. These features aim to ensure safe and uninterrupted train operations.
Depot Will Feature Advanced Maintenance Technology
Senior Divisional Mechanical Engineer Major Amit Swamy emphasized the high-tech systems planned for the Depot. These include automated wheel turning, external train washing, and diagnostic testing for bogie wheels and braking systems.
A dedicated lab will monitor safety-critical components, ensuring consistent service reliability. With these features, the facility is poised to support India’s high-speed rail ambitions effectively.
As India pushes forward with rail modernization, this Depot will play a vital role in maintaining performance and minimizing service disruptions nationwide.
