Uzbekistan Launches New Railcars on Tashkent–Khiva Route

Uzbekistan has launched ten new passenger railcars on the tourist route between Tashkent and Khiva, taking another step toward developing its transport infrastructure and domestic tourism. This is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

The national railway company, Uzbekistan Temir Yullari, purchased the railcars under a presidential decree dated October 10, 2023, which allocated two government-backed loans totaling approximately $75 million.

The train includes four open-plan cars, four compartment cars, and two luxury cars, with a combined capacity of 396 passengers. Each seat is equipped with USB ports and power outlets, while compartments feature individual climate control systems.
Manufacturing Progress at Uzbekistan’s Railcar Plant
In March, company officials announced the assembly of a 12-car diesel train now operating on the Tashkent–Bukhara line. Production of models 61-950 and 61-951 was also successfully launched.

The factory has extended the length of new railcars from 24 to 26 meters and continues modernization efforts. In 2023, the plant produced 35 railcars, some of which were exported to neighboring Central Asian countries.
Uzbekistan Expands Railcar Production Plans
For 2024, the company plans to manufacture 70 passenger railcars. In the future, annual production could increase to 100 units, strengthening Uzbekistan’s presence in the regional rail market.
Uzbekistan is investing in railway engineering by focusing on quality, export potential, and passenger comfort. This will help build a modern and highly localized passenger rail network.
