Uzbekistan has launched work on the feasibility study for the Tashkent — Samarkand railway line. Trains will travel at speeds of up to 300 km/h, significantly reducing travel time.

The South Korean consortium K-Rail One Team has officially started developing the feasibility study for the new railway route. The Ministry of Transport confirmed the signing of documents allowing the practical implementation of the project.

An important agreement was reached during a meeting on February 14. Participants included Deputy Minister of Transport Jasurbek Choriev, South Korean Ambassador Won Do Youn, and Korea Eximbank representative Sangjin Kang. The First Deputy Chairman of “Uzbekiston Temir Yullari,” Hikmatulla Rakhmetov, also took part in the discussions.
Project Funding and Completion Timeline in Uzbekistan
The feasibility study is funded through Korea Eximbank grants. The exact project cost has not yet been disclosed, but key participants have already been identified. The consortium includes South Korean companies such as Saman Engineering, Dong Myeong Engineering Consultants, Korea Railroad Corporation, and Korea National Railway.
The feasibility study is expected to be completed by March 2026. As part of the project, specialists will analyze the route, assess passenger demand, and calculate the project’s economic viability.
