USDOT Awards $488 Million in Grants for Rail and Port Projects

USDOT announced $488 million in BUILD grants to support critical transportation projects nationwide, aiming to improve rail and port infrastructure and drive economic growth across the United States. This is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.
Nearly $3 million will strengthen rail networks for better multimodal connectivity. For example, Washington State will receive $2 million for the Snohomish County Everett Intermodal Yard and rail improvements on BNSF Railway’s Bellingham Subdivision.
USDOT Prioritizes Rail Infrastructure Development
Planned work includes 13,000 feet of new mainline track and a 4,300-foot siding west of Rogers mainline. The former mainline will convert into storage tracks, while the Rogers line moves west to enhance curve geometry and operational efficiency.

USDOT Expands Port Investments for Growth
Waterway projects secured more than $35 million, primarily for port upgrades. The Bristol Port Facility in Pennsylvania will receive $25 million to build a new 1,100-foot dock, modernize unloading equipment, dredge 70,000 cubic yards, and integrate enhanced rail systems.
The BUILD program remains highly competitive, with over 800 applications requesting more than $10 billion. USDOT awarded funding to projects demonstrating strong economic impact and operational benefits, reinforcing its commitment to improving national infrastructure.
By focusing on strategic rail and port enhancements, USDOT aims to strengthen supply chain resilience and promote sustainable economic development. The full list of funded projects is available on the department’s official site.
