University Offers Tuition Cuts for Railway Students
02.03.2025
Vietnam’s University of Transport proposes slashing tuition fees for railway students. Top performers get 100% off, while good students receive 50%. This was reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

Urgent Need Drives Support for Railway Students
Experts predict a huge demand for workers in Vietnam’s railway sector soon. Specifically, the North-South High-Speed Railway needs 260,000 employees total.

The project in Vietnam requires 300 to 500 staff between 2025 and 2027. However, this jumps to 700–900 during peak years of 2028–2032.
Construction demands the most, needing 220,000 to 240,000 workers in Vietnam. Meanwhile, 18,000–20,000 engineers must join during the busiest phase.
About 20–30% of these engineers will specialize in railway construction projects. Later, operations need 13,880 workers by 2035–2036 for maintenance.
Challenges in Attracting Railway Students
Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Van Hung leads Vietnam’s University of Transport. He highlights the urgent need for skilled rail professionals today.
Yet, railway studies draw fewer students compared to other technical fields. So, many choose part-time or short-term courses instead.
Dr. Hung notes regular railway program enrollment stays surprisingly low. Consequently, Vietnam’s university boosts interest with big tuition incentives.
The plan offers full tuition waivers for top rail program students. Similarly, it provides half-off fees for those with solid grades.
Previously, Vietnam’s Ministry of Construction urged proactive workforce planning efforts. Thus, agencies must develop training to meet project demands.
Training schools should partner with global and local groups for progress. Because of this, they can build strong rail programs.
Institutions must also create policies to grow Vietnam’s railway workforce effectively. For example, they should tailor training to the North-South project.
The tuition plan aligns with Vietnam’s railway development goals perfectly. Therefore, it tackles both education and industry needs well.
This tuition strategy could reshape railway education across Vietnam soon. Moreover, it prepares students for a thriving high-speed rail future.
Experts believe these incentives will attract more talent to the sector. Ultimately, Vietnam’s rail network gains a skilled, ready workforce.
