Both companies emphasize cooperation and efficiency, ensuring passengers experience uninterrupted service during this transition. Maintaining reliability remains their top priority throughout this operational shift.

Union Pacific and Metra Continue Financial Negotiations

Liisa Stark, vice president of Public Affairs at Union Pacific, reaffirmed their commitment to progress. She emphasized that reaching a fair financial agreement is a priority for both parties.

Financial discussions regarding Metra’s use of Union Pacific’s infrastructure are ongoing without resolution. Both companies entered mediation in August 2024 to determine appropriate compensation terms.

Despite multiple extensions, mediation ended on January 31, 2025, without an agreement. Union Pacific has proposed arbitration as the next step to resolve financial disputes effectively.

While negotiations continue, Union Pacific remains responsible for track maintenance and operational oversight. The company ensures stability and safety throughout the transition period with Metra.

Passengers can expect reliable service as both organizations finalize the transfer process. Maintaining seamless operations is a shared goal during this critical transition phase.
