21.11.2022
During the Railway Congress, projects that Ukraine will undertake to improve rail transport to and from Poland were listed. It is reported by Railway Supply magazine with reference to Rynek Kolejowy.
“We have initiated further grain transportation projects. We are trying to improve the railway connection on the border with Poland, Romania, Slovakia and Moldova. Poland has been supporting Ukraine in a special way for 9 months now, this is the most important hub for us,” said Mustafa Nayem, Deputy Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine.

“In the current situation, when ports are blocked, the railway is the only way to the world. But, of course, what we have is not enough. We care about improving both the conditions for the transportation of goods and people,” he outlined the priorities of the Ukrainian government regarding the improvement of the capacity of railway lines to the borders.
First of all, there is an opportunity to improve the entry into Ukraine from the Polish side, thanks to the construction of a 1435 mm gauge from Mostysk (where such a gauge goes from Przemysl). Design work in this area is already underway.
Secondly, Nayem mentioned the Kovel – Yagodin (-Chelm) line, where modernization is to be carried out to increase the capacity of the line, the electrification of the Kovel – Izuv line is being completed, which in the future will also lead to an increase in the capacity of the line to Poland (LHS). However, to take full advantage of this, it is necessary to electrify the short Polish section to Hrubieszow.
The importance of two smaller projects was also emphasized – the reconstruction of the section Rawa Ruska – Grebenne (previously fast trains from Warsaw reached Rawa Ruska) and line 102, where PKP PLK has already reconstructed the line on the Polish side. As for the last project, the decision has already been made, this line will be repaired by Chyriw. Ukraine is actively restoring its lines to other countries. A good example of this is the line from Rakhiv to the Romanian border.
