The essence of the signed memorandum lies in providing the ministry with expert and technical support during Ukraine’s integration into the unified European railway space.
The parties have agreed on the need to combine efforts to harmonize standards and regulations governing railway safety.
Moreover, significant attention is given to operational compatibility, which will enable Ukrainian railways to seamlessly integrate into the European transport system.
To successfully achieve the goals of the memorandum, the parties intend to establish a steering committee.
This body will focus on setting priorities and developing phased plans to ensure effective execution of the tasks at hand.
The implementation of agreed standards and procedures is expected to not only enhance railway safety but also simplify transport connections between Ukraine and EU countries.
ERA Executive Director Josef Doppelbauer noted that the signed document elevates cooperation with Ukrainian authorities to a new qualitative level.
He stated that the agency sees great potential in developing the partnership and is ready to provide all necessary assistance for the successful realization of the set goals.
It is worth noting that, as part of the Eurointegration program, the European Union has already allocated significant funds—almost €43 million—to Ukrzaliznytsia, which will be used for key infrastructure projects.
These funds are planned to be used for modernizing the railway network and aligning it with European standards, thereby accelerating Ukraine’s integration into the unified transport space of Europe.
