The new transport corridor will connect the port of Aqaba with key mining regions of Al-Shidiya and Ghor Al-Safi.

Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan: $150 Million for Joint Production of Ferries for the Trans-Caspian Route

This project will be part of a larger $5.5 billion investment package approved by both countries in November 2023.

The responsibility for implementing the project will be undertaken by UAE’s Etihad Rail.

One of the main objectives will be the modernization of Jordan’s railway infrastructure. As part of this effort, new trains will be produced and delivered, complying with modern international standards.

The construction will take five years, with completion planned for 2030.

The project also includes the creation of specialized terminals for mineral products.

It is important to note that loading and unloading complexes will be built in Aqaba, Ghor Al-Safi, and Al-Shidiya, ensuring efficient handling of phosphates and potash fertilizers.

These materials are the foundation of the local industry, and the new railway line will significantly simplify their transportation.

In addition, Etihad Rail has signed agreements with Jordan Phosphate Mines Co. and Arab Potash Co., under which 16 million tons of products will be transported annually via the new network.

These agreements open up new opportunities to strengthen economic ties between the countries, supporting the development of Jordan’s logistics and transport infrastructure.

Jordan and the UAE have maintained strong economic and diplomatic relations for many years.

Over the past decade, the UAE has invested about $22.5 billion in Jordan’s economy, making them one of the largest foreign investors.

Detailed studies are currently underway on the railway routes and preparation for mineral resource processing.

It is expected that all research work will be completed by the end of 2025. Tenders for construction work will be announced in 2026.
