Italy’s railway infrastructure operator, Rete Ferroviaria Italiana (RFI), is advancing the modernization of the railway network as part of the National Recovery and Sustainable Development Plan (PNRR), this is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

Two contracts with a total value of 633 million euros have been concluded.

Investments in the ‘China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan’ Railway Project

The first contract, worth 374.2 million euros, involves the construction of a second track on the Jenga – Serra-San-Quirico section, increasing capacity and raising the maximum speed on the Orte – Falconara line.

The second contract, worth 259 million euros, is related to expanding the number of tracks on the Ro – Parabiago section and creating a direct connection from Parabiago to Milan’s Malpensa Airport, contributing to improved transportation infrastructure.

RFI has also announced a tender for the electrification of the 112-kilometer Sibari – Crotone section of the Metapontum – Reggio Calabria line, with a project cost of 47 million euros, continuing the modernization of Italy’s railway network under the PNRR.
