«Turkey Gate»: Railway project between Turkey and Azerbaijan
The railway project between Turkey and Azerbaijan (Turkey Gate) will have great strategic advantages, informs Railway Supply magazine citing information portal Report.
According to experts, the railway project will contribute to the creation of a short, efficient transport corridor between Turkey and Azerbaijan. On the other hand, Turkey and Azerbaijan will create an important trade corridor with China.
Turkey Gate will have some impact on the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway project, but it will be insignificant.
“Baku-Tbilisi-Kars will continue to remain a very important and strategic railway and will retain its importance, especially for the northern regions of Azerbaijan. In the long term, it is necessary to integrate the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars and Baku-Nakhchivan-Turkey railways, ”said Oktay Tanrisever, chairman of the working group on energy diplomacy of the Turkish National Committee of the World Energy Council, professor at the Middle East Technical University of Turkey.
According to the specialists, Georgia needs to create a joint venture on the Kara railway, provided for by the agreement with Azerbaijan, and implement this project, as it contributes to the accession of the Central Asian countries – Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Afghanistan to the European and world markets.
