Turkey Advances Domestic Rail Technology with New Deliveries
16.06.2025
Turkey continues to strengthen its national railway sector with newly delivered locally made electric locomotives, EMUs, and fire-fighting vehicles from Türasaş to TCDD Taşımacılık. This is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

During the official handover, Transport Minister Abdulkadir Uraloğlu stressed the strategic role of domestic rail production. He said the country is shaping its future by focusing on national technologies across rail, defense, IT, and marine sectors.

All new vehicles were designed and produced entirely in Turkey at Türasaş facilities in Eskişehir, Sakarya, and Sivas. The program reflects the nation’s drive to build a self-reliant, high-tech rail industry.
The flagship E5000 electric locomotive leads this transformation. With 5 MW of power, a top speed of 140 km/h, and EU TSI certification, it supports both freight and passenger operations.
Five units have already been delivered. Türasaş plans to supply 15 more by late 2025, 30 in 2026, and 45 by 2027, completing the full 95-unit order.
Turkey also expands its EMU fleet. Since 2023, five units operate on the Adapazarı–Gebze route, each capable of 160 km/h. Türasaş will build 22 more in 2025 and 17 by 2026, reaching 53 units by 2030.
Turkey Targets High-Speed Rail Expansion
This year, Türasaş began producing the country’s first national high-speed train designed for 225 km/h. Fourteen trainsets will be completed between 2026 and 2028 to meet growing domestic demand.
The company also delivered a battery-powered shunting locomotive. This zero-emission vehicle reduces fuel use and maintenance costs in stations and depots, with six units currently in production.
Turkey Reinforces Emergency Rail Response Capabilities
A new fire-fighting and rescue wagon enhances safety during the transport of hazardous goods. It holds 92 tonnes of water and 4 m³ of foam, equaling the capacity of 42 fire engines and 9 tankers.
Türasaş developed this unit in cooperation with 100 local suppliers. Its advanced features significantly reduce response time and boost operational safety during emergencies.
Minister Uraloğlu called the milestone a symbol of national independence. “We no longer rely on foreign suppliers—we now build every type of rail vehicle with our own technology.”
Established in 2020, Türasaş is now the largest rolling stock manufacturer in the Middle East and continues expanding its influence across global markets.
