Tube strike begins, disrupting London for five days
07.09.2025
The Tube strike has commenced and coincides with the first major walkout since the period in March 2023. The London Underground employees represented by the RMT union began the five-day strike regarding pay, work life, and lower weekly hours.

This is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.
Tube strike impacts daily travel across the capital
Transport for London has confirmed limited services will continue through Sunday evening. However, Monday through to Thursday, few or no Underground service will be available as different staffing categories hold separate days of rolling walkouts.

Meanwhile the Overground and Elizabeth line are operating. So commuters should be ready for bigger crowds and longer queues, especially at Underground-shared stations when the train isn’t stopping during the strike.
TfL response and related disputes on DLR
It has offered a 3.4% wage rise and stated it was willing to negotiate further. It said shortening the contractual 35-hour week is “neither practical nor affordable” in the current finances.

Moreover, a separate claim will close the Docklands Light Railway on Thursday and Tuesday. This will put additional pressure on London’s transport system as commuters will be looking to travel by other means.
Travel advice during the strike period
Any services running on Sunday will finish earlier than they usually do. The Tube will open later than usual on Friday, September 12 when services will begin running at 08:00. Therefore, commuters should check the updates at TfL before they travel.
Until when will the Tube strike last in London?
The Tube strike will continue for five days and will begin on Sunday and continue through Thursday. Services will be limited on Sunday and most lines will be shut during the week.
Are the Elizabeth line and the Overground affected by the strike?
The Overground and Elizabeth lines will operate while the strike takes place. However, it will be very busy and not all the trains may stop at shuttered Underground stations.
What travel alternatives exist during the Tube strike?
Commuters can travel by bus, the Elizabeth line, and the Overground while the Tube is on strike. Additionally, passengers should allow extra time to travel and check TfL’s website for the most recent information in real-time.
