AmeriStarRail has revealed a bold proposal to launch a transcontinental high-speed train from LA to NYC by 2026, aiming to complete the journey in under 72 hours. This is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

The plan seeks to transform coast-to-coast rail travel using existing Amtrak infrastructure and private investment.

The project, called the Transcontinental Chief, would run through key cities like Harrisburg, Chicago, and the Grand Canyon before reaching Los Angeles. AmeriStarRail plans to use Amtrak’s network in 46 states, along with its fleet of coaches, sleepers, and dining cars. This approach could reduce setup time and lower infrastructure costs.

In a formal letter to Amtrak President Roger Harris, AmeriStarRail proposed a joint venture that includes transporting passengers, automobiles, and freight. The company believes this would open a new era of profitable long-distance rail travel, driven by private enterprise rather than public subsidies.

AmeriStarRail expects to launch the service by May 2026, aligning with the FIFA World Cup and the 250th anniversary of the United States. They have already presented the idea to former President Donald Trump and several members of Congress, seeking national support.

Chief Operating Officer Scott Spencer emphasized that this transcontinental high-speed train from LA to NYC could mark the start of a new “Golden Age” in American rail transport. The plan combines modern technology with private capital to create a practical, scenic, and efficient cross-country alternative to air travel.

Although Amtrak has not responded to this proposal, and has previously declined similar offers, AmeriStarRail remains optimistic. The company positions the Transcontinental Chief as a cost-effective, timely solution for 21st-century mobility.
