Sener Leads Engineering for Toronto’s Line 2 Extension

Sener will lead the engineering design for stations, track, and systems. Their work covers architecture, structural elements, geotechnics, and electromechanical systems, along with ventilation, landscaping, utilities, and station caverns.

The firm is also responsible for electrification, train control, communications, and signalling. These components are essential for seamless operation across Toronto’s Line 2 and will ensure system-wide efficiency and safety.

Toronto’s Line 2 Expansion to Serve 105,000 Riders Daily

Once operational, the extension will handle 105,000 daily riders. Of those, about 52,000 will be new users, helping to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by up to 10,000 tonnes per year.

Although initial construction started in 2011, the completion timeline has been delayed beyond the original 2024 target. Despite setbacks, the project remains central to Toronto’s broader transit modernization plans.

The Scarborough expansion forms part of the Ontario Line strategy, which aims to expand and update the city’s subway infrastructure to meet long-term demand.
