Southern Railway has launched a new current booking option for Vande Bharat Express trains. Starting July 17, passengers can reserve available seats until 15 minutes before the train leaves an intermediate station.

The system applies to Mangaluru Central–Thiruvananthapuram Central (20631) and its return route (20632), along with six other Vande Bharat Express services under the Southern Railway division. Officials aim to improve passenger convenience and optimize train occupancy.

Why Flexible Tickets Matter for Travelers

Previously, once a Vande Bharat train departed its origin station, vacant seats remained unsold. This new rule changes that, allowing bookings at en route stations and ensuring efficient use of resources.

For tourists and business travelers, this feature supports spontaneous plans and prevents unnecessary waste. And if successful, Indian Railways may expand the initiative nationwide, transforming ticketing practices across the network.
