According to the document, from 2022, freight carriers will be able to extend the standard service life of cars if they have a residual resource or the possibility of its recovery.

This criterion will be evaluated by a specialized organization through a set of diagnostic measures.

This was reported by the railway magazine Railway Supply with reference to the MIU.

However, the extension period will be limited depending on the type of car. For example, the document proposes to increase the standard period for gondola cars to 42 years from 2022 and reduce it annually until it reaches 22 years in 2028, ie the current standard service life. At the same time for covered cars the invariable standard service life of 48 years at current 32 years is established.

The order is expected to take effect on January 1, 2022. Thus, it is planned to launch a comprehensive program to update the fleet of freight cars until 2028, which “Ukrzaliznytsia” presented in early October.

At the end of June, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine instructed the Ministry of Infrastructure to approve the procedure for conducting a set of diagnostic, repair and registration operations aimed at extending the service life of freight cars within three months, and to determine these terms. As it was said in the explanatory note to the document, 72.5% of 174 thousand wagons operated on the network of Ukraine have a standard service life that has already passed.
