According to the report, the Houston-New York train route scored 14 out of 15 possible points. This top ranking reflects its promising public benefits, manageable costs, and relatively low complexity compared to other routes.

Costs and Benefits of the Houston-New York Train Route

Initial cost projections for the Houston-New York train route include rolling stock and station upgrades. These improvements are expected to enhance connectivity and bring economic benefits to underserved regions.

The FRA notes that implementing these routes could expand Amtrak’s network by 23,200 miles, connect 39 million additional people, and create 157,600 new city pairs. Among the proposed routes, the Houston-New York train route remains a top priority.
